In terms of being true to the spirit of what Dickens wanted to convey, the transformation of Scrooge in this story is very accurate. Many movie versions of ACC include that Scrooge's mother died giving birth to him, thus fueling his father's anger toward him.

Tough and gritty, but excellent. Miser Ebenezer Scrooge is awakened on Christmas Eve by spirits who reveal to him his own miserable existence, what opportunities he wasted in his youth, his current cruelties, and the dire fate that awaits him if he does not change his ways. It is A Christmas Carol for the 21st Century. A Christmas Carol (2009) cast and crew credits, including actors, actresses, directors, writers and more. Not true...this is NOT a part of the original story. Scrooge is faced with his own story of growing bitterness and meanness, and must decide what his own future will hold: death or redemption.
